Director of Analysis and Advising
At the Lab, our Director of Analysis and Advising is an international development practitioner with expertise in development strategy and evaluation. Geordie has a background in Government, NGOs and consulting. The team at the Lab loves Geordie's ability to think through the possible impact of big policy and institutional changes on equality, poverty and people's lives.
Secretly, Geordie always thought he would be an Olympic trampolinist. As it turns out, working at the Lab and on development policy requires just as much flexibility. When he's not working at the Lab, you'll find Geordie baking sourdough or researching ultralight hiking gear.
In a previous life, Geordie worked at the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT), including a year in Canberra working on Australia's membership on the Human Rights Council and a four-year posting in Timor-Leste. His work at the embassy in Timor-Leste spanned aid strategy, monitoring, evaluation and learning (MEL), social protection, gender-based violence and a dash of COVID-19 health response and flood response. Geordie has also worked as an evaluation consultant, was the former Head of International Programs at Oaktree and more recently, taught kids how to ski in Lebanon.
Over the years, Geordie has honed his technical skills with a Master of Evaluation, a law degree and a philosophy major. His in-country experience crosses Southeast Asia and the Pacific. Geordie is passionate about social justice and being clear-eyed about what policies can make the biggest difference to people's lives. He loves working with people across different sectors and crowdsourcing ideas for the transformational changes we need.
